True Warrior Mindset

I have mulled this subject over in my mind for decades. What is a Warrior? What mindset might they have? What it takes to live as one. I’ve made it a point to listen to people talk about what it means to them to be a Warrior.

In the military special groups, on the frontlines, face to face with the enemy, we are taught to not allow outside distractions to affect what we have to do. Distraction affects our judgment and decision making. When decision have to be made in split second timing, and have life or death consequences, we cannot afford distraction and accuracy. This kind of mastery of focus shows when we step onto the battlefield and we care purely about the person to our left and right, and the mission, putting anything personal to the side.

It is also taught that in order to be the best warrior on the battlefield, you must accept the fact that you may not return from the battlefield, and indulge yourself in the moment to fight like a hero warrior everytime the moment arises, because there is no return.

Off the battlefield, I believe the warrior mindset isn’t a show or a parade of presence. It is an interior calling of will, grit, confidence, determination, and personal courage. Not something that can be quantified; it’s something that clings to the interior of your entire body. It is something that drives you forward that has you wanting to reach the next level. The fuel that runs this type of warrior mindset is the determination to not be average, to not be like everyone else, to be someone willing to make waves for worthy reasons. Those who reach for this way of being break through barriers, because it is the mindset of full personal responsibility, no return or retreat.
