Character
Character
When you hear the word character most will think of someone who is out of line or reference the saying that person is a character (funny person).
But if we look closer at the original definition of what it means to be a person of character it means the combination of multiple values. Character isn’t something you just pick up, but involves sustained integrity, one who is acting for what is right in any moment at any time no matter who is looking. Courage is the second value that makes up character, one who is essentially stopping wrongs at the moment, and commands greatness in one’s self. Those who have a solid character are few and far between.
I believe that character is not only in going through the motions in action but also is evident in the way one holds themselves. The look of courage and integrity can stain a person face in a way that allows other to see the values beaming from that person.
I think the greatest illustration would be was my time as a lead firefighter. When firefighters show up on scene, they are there to help no matter the price, they run into burning buildings. They will cut cars in half, they pull people from drowning, they tirelessly perform any action to save even one life, in any weather or circumstance. They exude a character of courage and integrity. To illustrate this point, tell me one other profession, where people just hand you their infants, and know with a shadow of doubt you will protect it with their life, without thinking twice.
Character is something that is unfortunately not as prevalent in the world today as it use to be. Picking to become a person of character can start today with you, do the right thing and in the moment right the wrongs. Warriors forge the way….
